StorySign

We brought to life Huawei's StorySign app with a social and video campaign, that reached 1.5 billion people around the world, and helped thousands of deaf children learn to read.

THE APPROACH:

CHALLENGE

Right now, there are 32 million deaf children in the world. Many struggle to read - literacy is a really big issue in the deaf community because deaf children can't learn letters phonetically and they struggle to match words with sounds. This can cause problems at school and as a result, problems later on in life.

Huawei saw an opportunity to help, believing that technology should enrich people’s lives and AI can extend the boundaries of what is humanly possible.

SOLUTION

Huawei created StorySign: a free app built with Huawei AI that takes words from children's books, and turns them into sign language. The app's avatar brings books to life in 12 different sign languages, supported by 11 international deaf charities.

We developed a social and video campaign targeted towards deaf children's parents, to raise awareness of the app.

DELIVERING RESULTS

Our campaign secured a reach of 1.5 billion.

50,000 books have been opened in-app.

More books, in more languages are launching in 2019.
