Wavemaker UK wins Media Agency of the Year at Mediatel’s Media Research Awards 2019
Last Tuesday, 19 February, saw Wavemaker UK scoop not one but two awards at Mediatel’s Media Research Awards 2019 prestigious ceremony at London’s Banking Hall.
Our “outstanding” PHE Breastfeeding Friend and WM Voicemaker project won us the Best Custom Media Research Project prize, with the judges noting that this was a very high-quality category. “Wavemaker won thanks to its innovation, clarity of thought and sophisticated execution. It is a worthy winner from an excellent shortlist,” said David Pidgeon, judge and editor of Mediatel News.
Our Audience Science team also won the Media Agency of the Year Award - beating stiff competition from OMD UK and the7stars. "Wavemaker rose to the top of a closely-fought category with a great catalogue of projects, using a variety of techniques and data. The common thread was a singular focus on driving actionable insight for clients,” said Denise Turner, judge and director of insight at Newsworks.
"Insight in media agencies has undoubtedly undergone massive transformation, and that was definitely reflected in the entries in this category,” she added.
Commenting on the overall standard of 2019's competitors, Derek Jones, CEO of Mediatel, said: "For the fifth annual awards the quality of the work has only increased, truly demonstrating that the UK delivers world-class projects.
"We are proud to run the only awards of this type in the UK and feel privileged to be in a position to reward innovation and help showcase such high calibre work. Huge congratulations to the winners."
Other winners on the night included Channel 4, Thinkbox, Formula 1, BBC World Service and ITV.
The 2019 judging panel included Andy Marrs, global accounts measurement manager at Facebook; Belinda Beeftink, research director at the IPA; and Jonny Protheroe, head of UK market insights at Google.
