The 65th Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity brought the creative communications industry together for a week in France to learn, network and be inspired. Don’t miss our key takeaways and themes from Cannes this year.

Coming out of Cannes 2019, what did we think? First of all: What a great year for the work. After a few mixed years, insights and ideas have returned to the festival with a bang.

While some of the best work came from familiar territory: not-for-profit, fast food and soft drinks, other great ideas sprung up from further afield: pet nutrition, air fresheners, furniture design, trains and bookshops.

Here are our Wavemaker top five themes and the best work we’ve seen at Cannes this year. You’ll find some of the winners and also some of the work you might not have heard so much about, but which we think is great.

Our teams are celebrating their involvement in 18 Lions wins at Cannes 2019, including 4 Gold, 2 Silver and 10 Bronze, The Grand Prix in Glass and a Titanium for The Last Ever Issue.

We’re particularly proud of this work from Wavemaker Poland in collaboration with fellow WPP agency VMLY&R Poland, gazeta.pl, Mastercard, BNP Paribas and Papaya Films for receiving the top prize in recognition of the culture-shifting creativity that set out to positively provoke and impact ingrained gender equality.
