Thrive is live! 2024 apprenticeship applications now open

Share

Applications for our entry-level apprenticeship scheme Thrive, a talent-first recruitment initiative for school leavers, graduates or career changers aged 18+, are now open for 2024.

We’re on a mission to find passionate, curious and diverse thinkers looking to kickstart their career in media. There’s no requirements for experience or in-depth knowledge of the media industry. Instead, ‘Thrive’ prioritises potential, ambition and passion.

After the success of its first year, we’re delighted to be hiring a further 10 ‘Thrivers’ into the business across London and Manchester.

Meet our Thrivers

Holly Lacey and Danilma Paxigina joined Wavemaker UK last year as part of the inaugural Thrive cohort. Read on below for a flavour of what it’s like to work at Wavemaker, what you can expect from Thrive, and some tips and advice for applying to the Thrive programme.

Meet Danilma…

Hiya, my name is Danilma, and I work in the AV team in the Manchester office. I came across the opportunity just by chance, and as someone who had decided university wasn’t the pathway for me, but still wanted to secure a good entry level job in an industry interesting to me, Thrive seemed like the perfect first step.

Since joining, I’ve been embraced into my team and guided through everything, giving me the confidence and knowledge to succeed in my role. My daily tasks as a member of the AV team includes tracking campaign performance, communicating with media owners to optimise anything that is underdelivering, and presenting results to the client once the campaign has finished.

In terms of my favourite thing about the programme, I really appreciated, and still do love, the community that comes with being a part of the Thrive programme. Starting with other people who are in the same position as you makes a daunting experience a lot easier, and I’m really grateful that we were able to support each other as we found our feet, and built friendships.

Meet Holly…

Hi, my name is Holly, I work in the Planning team and I’m based in the London office. I recently finished my degree and knew I wanted to get into media. I found the thrive application online and knew it was the perfect first step to launch my career in the industry! This unique experience as a ‘Thriver’ gave me a deep dive into the world of digital marketing, offering amazing opportunities for growth and learning.

From day one, Wavemaker’s collaborative environment welcomed me, making me feel like a part of the team. My role involves planning a media campaign from start to finish, liaising with our clients, activation teams, media owners, keeping on top of finances to make sure everything is delivered smoothly, and so much more.

I completely agree with Dani, the community that is built within Thrive is uplifting and motivating. Starting out in the industry not knowing an awful lot about media was daunting but having people at the same level as you is really reassuring and helpful. In addition to the community and culture, I would say the opportunities we get as Thrivers is another favourite part of the programme, for example, we get to go out for the day to media owners’ offices like TikTok and The Daily Mail, and learn about their companies and how we work together to produce amazing campaigns.

Top tips for applying

  1. Come prepared. Make sure you understand who Wavemaker are, what they do, and what clients they have. Research the business and the potential departments you could be placed in to grasp an understanding of what media is and what your role could include – this will help you shine!
  2. Take your time with the application. Include everything you want to show off.
  3. Ask questions. Ask as many as you need to. There’s no such thing as a silly question.
  4. Be your authentic self. Wavemaker prides itself on its culture of belonging – there’s a place for everyone.
  5. Don’t worry about not understanding media jargon. Thrive is as much a learning experience as it is a job, and you’ll pick things up along the way.
